My friend decided to get marriage legally in sub registrar office Ashok Nagar, Chennai . what are the documents required to do register marriage in Ashok Nagar, Chennai and what is the time will take to get marriage certificate .?

Documents required for marriage registration is vary Act to Act. Find required documents and procedure For each Act:-

Marriage Registration under Hindu Marriage Act
i) Registration of Hindu Marriages Solemnized and granting of extract of marriages registered.

· Marriages solemnized under Hindu customs/ non-customary

· Bridegroom/Bride should have completed 21/18 years respectively

· Both of them should be Hindus, Buddhist or Sikhs

· Proof of marriage

· Anyone of the following place should fall within the jurisdiction of the Registering officer:

o Residence of bride.

o Residence of bridegroom.

o Solemnization place.

Proof for all these shall be given

1 . MARRIAGE

Wedding Invitation (or)

Temple Marriage Receipts (or)

Any proof of marriage solemnization

2. RESIDENCE

Employee ID Card (or)

Ration Card (or)

Driving License (or)

Passport or Visa

3. AGE

Birth Certificate (or)

School/College Certificate (or)

Passport / Visa

In addition to the above memorandum in duplicate with 4 passport size photograph for bride and 4 passport size photograph for bridegroom should be submitted.

· Marriages solemnized under any personal law can be registered.

· Bridegroom/Bride should have completed 21/18 years respectively

· It can be registered within 90 days without fine and within 90-150 days with fine.After that it can't be registered.

· Proof of marriage

· The following place should fall within the jurisdiction of the Registering officer:

o Solemnization place.

Proof for all these shall be given

1 . MARRIAGE

Wedding Invitation (or)

Temple/Church Marriage Receipts (or)

Any proof of marriage solemnization

2. RESIDENCE

Voter ID Card (or)

Ration Card (or)

Documents marriage registration in Tamilnadu :
As per the Government site they have mentioned passport in both address and age proof . As per the Government site , if you have passport ,one invitation and three witnesses your marriage must be register in Tamilnadu . But in realistic, it is not an easy task to register the marriage in Tamilnadu .

In sub registrar offices in Tamilnadu every Sub registrar has their own law and procedure. So they will documents as per their own law. I hereby mention some documents required by some sub registrars for marriage registration in Tamilnadu:

Age proof:
1. Transfer certificate must
2. Birth certificate must
3. Mark sheet Must
Address proof :
1. Ration card Must
2. Aadhar card Must(will not be accepted)
3. Passport (will not be accepted )
4. Voter ID must
5. Employee ID (will not be accepted)

Proof of marriage

1. Invitation and
2. Temple hall receipt to confirm the invitation
3. Letter from hall to confirm the receipt
4. Letter from the priest who solemnized the marriage

Even if you produce all those documents they will ask VAO certificate stating he/she is bachelor/spinster they are previously not married to any one.
If you produce this certificate they will ask both parents as witness even though they are not well or they are living in abroad.
So if you produce Aadhar as proof of address they will ask ration card. If you produce ration card as proof of address they will ask Aadhar card.

Better you must keep all those documents ready before visiting sub registrar office in Tamilnadu. This is also not sure they may ask any additional documents from you !!!!!!!

One of my friend is belongs to Salem and he is like to marry an Malaysian citizen and currently both are working in Singapore
She is a citizen of Malaysia but they cannot go to Malaysia for their Marriage and they wish to doing their register marriage in Salem or any other convenient place in Tamilnadu.
We approached sub registrar office in SRO Office - Dadagapatti, 9/60, Trichy Main Road, RSV Thottam, Seelanaickenpatti, Salem, Tamil Nadu 636201 Phone: 0427 246 9747
The sub registrar asking following documents :
Single status certificate for bride from Malaysia Government
NOC for bride from Malaysia Government
First Marriage certificate for groom from VAO Salem
Witness only blood relatives from both side at least one person from each side .
Also he told that she has to live in Salem at least 30 days
They are very much frustrated about the registration process in salem.

Can you tell me Which place in Tamilnadu , the foreigner marriage can be registered in shot span of time and how long it will take to complete registration and get registered marriage certificate for visa process .
